We also averaged raising at least one marlin per 3 day trip, and of course there was plenty of dorado to go around. Our fresh ceviche is second to none!

Guatemala Fishing Report - 3/9/2009

March 9th, 2009

The action slowed down a bit in mid-February, but got red hot again towards the end of the month and img_1362_2_200pix1continues to be great in early March.

On February 26th, Richard Burris and his wife came down for 3 days of fishing aboard our 35 Cabo Express, Hooked Up, which is run by Captain Nestor. This was the Burris’s first trip to Guatemala and I am sure they will be telling the stories for months to come.

On day one, fishing just 15 miles offshore the day started off a little slow,  until Richard caught a nice 400 pound Blue Marlin on 50 pound test. The fight lasted 25 minutes and kicked off  a great 3 day trip. The couple also managed to raise 8 Sails, had 6 bites and release 4.

On day two Captain Nestor ran 20 miles offshore where most of the local fleet was fishing they raised 15 sails, had 12 bites and released 7. On day three, the Burris’s a had a few double headers to keep things exciting and managed to raise 30 sails, had 25 bites and released 18. What a banner day! Overall for the three day trip, they raised 53 Sails, had 43 bites, and released 29 Sails and 1 Blue Marlin.

hazelwood-fly-2_200pixThe action for the first week of March has continued to be string and consistent, with most boats raising an average of around 20 sails each day. The Marlin fishing continues to be produce as well and of course there are still plenty of Dorado to be caught.

Guatemala Fishing Report - 2/4/2009

February 9th, 2009

img_1068-200pix

The fishing continues to be red hot in Guatemala right now. The weather has been great, there has been an abundance of sailfish, dorado, yellowfin tuna and quite a few marlin still being caught.

Great discounts are now available and we’ve got some great dates still open in the next two months, so call us today at 888-700-3467 to book your trip.

Two weeks ago we hosted a group of 12 on their second annual “boys trip” to Guatemala. The group fished on 3 of our boats, the Captain Hook, Fishy Business and Hooked Up. The group was truly astonished at both the fishing and the beauty of Guatemala. Several of the guys were first-timers to Guatemala and they were blown away by the fishing. Overall the group raised over 150 sails in 3 days, a couple of marlin and enough dorado to produce sore muscles!

sail25-200pixDay one of the boy’s trip proved to be the slowest of all three days. The seas were a bit choppy in the morning but laid down nicely by mid-day. Lee Martino and his two son’s Mike and Daniel, raised 5 sails but only managed to hook 2. The group stayed busy catching 4 dorado, 3 of which were over 30 pounds. Meanwhile, the Fishy Business had a similar day going 3 for 5 on sails. Capt. Haron on the Captain Hook, had a better day only a few miles away with 7 sails released on 9 bites and several large dorado.

Day two saw much better action, with all three boats raising over 20 sails and catching numerous Dorado.dorado10-200pix Captain Tito on the Fishy Business and Captain Nestor on the Hooked Up managed well over 20 releases, and the Captain Hook had two shots at blue marlin. One marlin came up slashing at the left bridge teaser and then bit the tuna we ran out but did not hook up. The second marlin pounded the right bridge teaser hard and ran off quite a bit of line before disappearing. This was a big fish and she definitely got everyone’s heart rate up!

Day three was another great day, with plenty of fish around. Each boat saw over 25 sailfish. The Fishy Business had a double, and a triple on bait and twice had 4 sails after a fly! This was a special day for motter200pixWayne Andrews as he caught his first sailfish on the fly on his first attempt. Brad Wendkos also caught his first offshore fish on a fly rod, a nice dorado about 30 pounds. Afterwards, while the other two anglers were busy with multiple hook-ups, Brad took a long nap and when he awoke, said “that nap just topped off the best fishing trip of my life!”

Last week the action continued to be right up to Guatemalan standards. Our boats raised over 20 sails per day on average, caught plenty of dorado and managed 2 blues and 1 black marlin released.

The fishing as never been better, so what are you waiting for?
